Old Bolts B 3 Bury Amateurs 1
The B team turned out their best performance of the season against Bury winning comfortably, but more importantly playing neat flowing football that met with approval of all those watching on the sidelines.
Bury had no answer to the slick one touch passing and off the ball running of the Bolts and in the 30th minute Barrett latched on to a fine pass from Milne to round the keeper before being brought down. Brooks converted his second penalty of the season 1-0.
Dave Mopsey Morris on his return to the club duly notched just before half time with a trademark 6 yard box "poachers" goal, in which his shin got in the way of a defender's desparate goal line clearance and rebounded into the net. "They all count " said he nonchalantly! But at least he was there to get in the way!
In the 60th minute Entwistle and Milne played a fine one-two move that split the defence wide open for Entwistle to impressivly slot home from a narrow angle to put the result beyond doubt and Bury finished off with a consolation goal with 5 minutes left.
This was an outstanding performance by everyone. Keeper Matt Fray was faultless, the defence resolute with Thomasson, Morris and Finlay winning everything in the air, Brooks and Milne tireless in midfield, Ross George taunting the Bury defence from a midfield start point, and Barrett now starting to look like a force to be reckoned with in attack.
But next week, top of the league oppoosition who have yet to concede a goal, let alone drop any points, will be a much sterner test for the B team.
More importantly however, the B team will be without the reassuring presence of Ian Thomasson in defence for the next three months as he undegoes a major operation in the next few days to remove his prostate organ...Ouch!
"We all wish him a succesful and quick recovery and hope that performances like this in the near future will aid his convalescence! " said an unusually sincere Ron Manager
