Old Bolts B 2 Bolton Lads Club 2
After being denied the privilege of playing up at Turton due to an altercation between Dave Lee's gang mower and the goalposts, and relocating to Newhouse farm pitches, the B team were then cruelly denied a sensational victory against the league leaders (who had yet to concede a goal let alone a point) with literally the last kick of the match!
With just 20 minutes gone the Bolts handed an undeserved goal out of nothing to the opponents and things were looking ominous. But the Bolts battled on and carved out some good chances to equalise but to no avail.
At half time a tactical switch brought on Andy Beardsworth for James Armstrong and Gary Cowell for Rick Timmis, both of whom had played well. The team raised their game and in the 60th minute, it took a fine volley from the edge of the box that flew via the inside of the post from the MOM Ross Taylor to even up the score line!
The B team tails were up and with 10 minutes remaining the B team broke quickly and a cross from Ross Taylor was headed over the keeper by the clinical finishing of Andy Beardsworth, fresh off the plane from his 15th vacation of the year.
It could so easily have been 3-1 if it wasn't for some "Brewers Droop" finishing by Mopsey Morris and Ross George, and the Bolts were conseqently forced to batten down the hatches as Bolton Lads club threw everything at the Bolts.
The defence held out superbly until the referee chose to add on an extra minute for some allegedly harsh and unjustifiable time wasting. From a corner kick and a goalmouth scramble the Lads Club snatched the equaliser with the last kick of the game!
The B team put in a diligent and impressive performance with some fine defending by the stand in debut boy Ian Mitchell and centre back Dave Morris but the manager was inconsolable and vomiting like a parrot.
Three points would have put the B team joint top, the highest position ever in Ron Managers 4 years at the helm. Based on the performance over the last three games though, the team has nothing to fear in any of the opposition and won"t need to wait too long before they claim the top spot!
