Spotland Methodists 0 Old Bolts B 6

Another outstanding performance that confirmed that the B team is back on track and heading only in one direction. Even better - another clean sheet in which keeper Dave Sandbrook was merely a spectator to a fine display that deserved even more than six goals but for the Spotland Keeper and some dodgy refereeing.

Debut boy Olly Pimblett and Justin Tankard were solid and kept control at the back, Brookes returned  to midfield whilst Turner, Horan and Freeborn taunted and hounded the Spotland defence upfront. Within minutes of the kick off Horan was up to his tricks again with the first of three goals. Ben has an uncanny knack of scoring goals with little style and heap of good fortune but there is no disputing that he carves his chances out of nothing with some determined running- five goals in two games will silence his critics!

When Brookes, returning to prove that he can add to the B team renaissance, was hacked down in the box, to make it 2-0, there was only one way this game was going to end up, the Bolts were playing some fantastic football and it was a dream to watch - it was just a case of how many.

Was the tactical repositioning of Richard Kilburn from midfield to right back over the last two games, pure genius by the manager or just an opportunity to squeeze Milne into midfield. It is open to conjecture but either way it has proved successful and given the previously charitable Bolts defence a ruthless composed and miserly touch.

In the end though the Bolts took their foot off the pedal and cruised home to a comfortable victory. But next week will be the real test against Rossendale, if the B team can beat them, then there is no doubt the season that started off as a night mare could very possibly end up as a wet dream!
