Old Bolts 5 Rochdale 2

The Bolts B put on a scintillating performance against Rochdale with a first half display in which they thumped in 4 goals leaving Rochdale bewildered and out for the count.

If the performance was hard to believe then seeing Milne scoring two in the first 20 minutes was way beyond the realms of reality. And it could have got worse if the referee had played the advantage rule as Milne was about to score a hat trick within 30 minutes! Milne claimed there was a conspiracy denying him a justified hat trick - his first in 10 years.

Fortunately the referee saw a foul on Brookes and chose to stop play thus saving every acquaintance of Milne's from the ultimate verbal meltdown.

But this was a tremendous first half display with Freeborn making two goals and scoring one that could have justified a post match drugs test-it was so good!

Turner was in inspired form at right back - a position he is making his own with some astute passing and forward play. Griffiths returned and put in another good performance and a goal. Southern has now scored in every game he has played in to make it four nil and caused major headaches for Rochdales defence with his speed and finishing.

At half time – it was difficult to change the team on this performance but as Milne had pledged Entwistle 45 minutes - he duly reneged on his promise to be subbed in order to be given 10 minutes extended play to get his hat trick, and right on cue with the 5 minutes of the second half gone Pimblett put Milne through but was denied by the post. It was all too much for Milne and resigned to being denied his holy grail he bowed out gracefully.

Purely by coincidence in the second half the Bolts sparkle seemed to tarnish and Rochdale got back into the game with two goals before Freeborn nabbed the final seal of approval with 5 minutes remaining after good work by Southern and Turner.
