Old Bolts Res 2 Accrington  0

The game was only called on after a late pitch inspection by the referee and the conditions up at Turton were best described as F***ing Freezing!!! Due to the Christmas shopping excuses the reserves only had a bare 11 on Saturday morning but due to the 4th team being called off at the last minute they managed to cajole 1 sub from a possible 12, (Gary Cowell) into staying around and playing.

Right from the Kick Off the reserves were up for it and only a few minutes in John Collings blazed over when it was easier to score (sometimes I think if he tried placing the ball instead of trying to kick it as hard as he can, then John would score a lot more goals!!).

Accrington couldn't get out of their own half and it was inevitable that the deadlock would be broken and so it was when James Chadwick went through to finish well. 1-0. Bolts kept pushing on but the achillies heel of the team is its finishing and instead of building a comfortable half time lead they instead blew chance after chance, so at half time the score was still only 1-0.

Accrington started the 2nd half like a different team but with the defence well marshalled by Chris Hulton and Neil Davies, Dave Hopkins was given very little to do and the reserves started to get back into their stride and cause Accrington many problems. With 15 minutes to go the game was killed off as JC and Chaddy linked well once more and Chaddy struck his 2nd goal and put the result beyond doubt. Accrington tried to get back in the game but to no avail and the Reserves held on for a fine victory.

Many positives to take from this performance as a few of the fringe players proved a point to a very happy Reserve team manager Chris Neasham and will give him a few things to think about over the Christmas break (not really, i'm not that sad....honest!!)
