BOLTS CLAIM POINTS IN MUDBATH

Bolton Wyresdale hosted the Old Boltonians for this weekends clash and had prepared a pitch fit for a Queen (if the Queen was donning a leotard and competing in the annual Bolton Mud Wrestling Championship). Even before the game had commenced the pitch was only 70% grass and it was obvious that it was going to be difficult to play the ball on the deck effectively today. This was as it turned out, as the game was definitely not one for the neutral. Both teams attempted to play decent football, but were strongly hampered by the pitch and what resulted was a battle to steal the three points from the opposition.

The Old Boltonians were forced to start the game without an 'official' goalkeeper as three of the four keepers at the club were unable to play. Consequently Robin Myers volunteered to take one for the team. The aim was to stop the opposition having a shot, corner, throw-in near our box or free-kick; possibly a big ask!

Unfortunately, and at the risk of being accused of reporter laziness, there wasn"t a great deal of action worthy of mentioning in the game. The Old Boltonians were the better team, but it was hard to show when faced with the magnitude of debilitation offered by the pitch. The Old Boltonians scored two goals from corners - the first being a "net buster” from a Matt McCllelan header and the second a nonchalant flick at the near post from Rob Taylor. Wyresdale scored a late consolation with one of their only shots of the game, but it didn’t have an impact on the end result – the Old Boltonians claimed a 2-1 victory and secured a very good three points to go seven points clear at the top of the league.
