Bolts let 2 goal lead slip

The Old Boltonians travelled to the home of the Old Mancunians looking to defend their 100% record in the league so far this season. And after 20 minutes of the game it looked as though that record would be maintained without doubt. The Old Boltonians started the game in a lively manner and took the lead through right-midfielder Ryan Ferris. Robin Myers produced a good bit of defending to dispossess the Old Mancunians striker and played an inch perfect through ball past the floundering full back to put Ferris clean through on goal. Ferris kept his calm to round the goalkeeper with ease and slide the ball home into the empty net. The perfect start to the game for the Old Boltonians.

It was a matter of minutes before the lead was doubled. Nick Luke received the ball in acres of space on the left wing, but had no Old Boltonians player to pass to. He therefore hit a speculative effort from 30 yards. The ball flew into the top corner to make the score 2-0.

It was at this point that the Old Boltonians committed the cardinal sin, which they have been guilty of on more than one occasion thus far this season. They presumed that the game was won and that they could ease back and still get the victory. And in all fairness this was the case for the proportion of the remainder of the first half as the game petered out into an unspectacular and unproductive war of attrition by the Old Mancunians forwards on the steadfast and rock-like Old Boltonians defence. However, moments before the half-time whistle the Old Mancunians were gifted a goal and a way back into the game. A speculative punt forward by an Old Mancunians full back sailed over the Old Boltonians defence, which had pushed out as a cohesive line leaving the Old Mancunians forward line yards offside. Unfortunately, the ageing linesman had not kept up with play and thus the forward was adjudged, wrongly, to be onside. 2-1.

The second half was a performance better off forgotten by the Old Boltonians. The fact that the Old Mancunians levelled the score to gain a draw from the game was bad enough, but the manner in which the Old Boltonians capitulated was sh*t at best. Undoubtedly, the Old Boltonians are a more talented team than the Old Mancunians, but their performance was not consistent with this as the Old Mancunians were unlucky not to get all three points from the game. Let us hope that this was a minor blip and that the Old Boltonians are back to winning ways next week. Final score, 2-2.
