A cold, wet Saturday morning brought a top of the table clash with the Old Bolts facing league newcomers Failsworth Dynamos at home. Bolts were looking to rectify the previous two weeks disappointing results with a win which would see them six points clear and with a game in hand. The team talk before the game was frank and the players were left in no doubts about the challenge they were facing and the job they had to do. With the first whistle blown the game was off and the first 20 mins saw little action from both sides. The bolts were uncharacteristically sloppy with their ball retention and some needless wayward passes were on display, however Failsworth failed to capitalise on this until 10 minutes before half time where the right winger cut infield and was left with far too much time to fire the ball into the bottom left from 25 yards. Failsworth played some nice football, with their passing and holding the ball better than an off the mark Old Bolts.
A swift rocket ensued at half time from the gaffer and the Bolts were let back out onto the field where the second half proved to be a bit livelier. Bolts began to use their wingers to better effect and began to put some passes together. The bolts defence held strong as usual and allowed the midfield and attack to push forward and create some chances. One major chance the bolts had was where Ryan Ferris was released into the Failsworth half past the defence and bearing down on the goal. Unfortunately just before a cool finish which was sure to come, the ball seemed to stick slightly in the quagmire the pitch had now become, and the resulting shot was deflected by the goalkeeper over the crossbar. The second best chance of the game came with seconds to go when bolts broke away leaving Rob Taylor through on goal. With follow up play coming from mid-field in the form of specimen David Owen the ball was cut back into the centre and fired on target. Unfortunately a Failsworth player had managed to position himself on the line and cleared to adamant shouts that the ball was over, the decision was not given and Bolts were left wounded by a 1-0 defeat which sees the table tied. Old Bolts must regain their form quickly to stay top of the league and push for the title.
